Privacy Policy
This page explains what happens to your data when you use DevTooling — a suite of free formatters, converters, viewers, comparers and generators for XML, JSON, YAML, CSV, EDI and PDF, plus utilities like the Cron Generator, JWT Decoder and Base64/URL/HTML Encoder.
Your Documents and Text
Every tool on this site — formatters, viewers, the format converters, the compare tools, the JSONPath/XPath Tester, Cron Generator, JWT Decoder, Base64/URL/HTML Encoder, PDF Toolbox and EDI tools — runs entirely in your browser. Whatever you paste, type or drop into an editor is parsed and processed on your own device using JavaScript, and is never transmitted to our server.
The XSLT Compiler is the one exception. Running an XSLT transformation needs a server-side engine, so your XML and XSLT are sent to our server to perform that one operation. That data is held in memory only for the duration of the request, is never written to disk, logged, or stored, and is discarded the moment the response is sent back to you.
Local Storage and Preferences
The site remembers one thing in your browser's localStorage: your light/dark
theme choice, so it doesn't reset every visit. This value lives only on your device, is
never sent to our server, and isn't used to identify or track you.
Accounts, Cookies and Tracking
There are no user accounts, no sign-up, and no login anywhere on the site.
This site uses Google Analytics (GA4) to understand overall traffic and usage — for example, which tools get used and roughly how much traffic the site gets. Google Analytics sets cookies and may use device identifiers to distinguish visitors and measure activity across visits. It does not collect the content you paste into any tool, and this site does not use it to identify you personally.
You can learn more about how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and opt out of Google Analytics tracking across sites using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Where required by your local law (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR), our legal basis for this analytics processing is legitimate interest in understanding how the Service is used — or your consent, where a consent mechanism is presented to you. Google Analytics may transfer data to servers located outside your country, including the United States, under Google's own data transfer safeguards.
Advertising and Third-Party Content
Some pages reserve space for advertising, which may be served through third-party ad networks such as Google AdSense, or sold directly. Ad networks like Google may use cookies, device identifiers, or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites, and to measure ad performance. This site does not control those technologies — they're subject to the advertiser's or ad network's own privacy policy, not this one.
You can learn more about how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/ads, and opt out of personalized advertising from participating networks at aboutads.info/choices.
Contact, Bug Report and Suggest a Tool Forms
If you use the Contact form, the Report a Bug form, or the Suggest a Tool form, any information you provide (such as your name, email address, or a screenshot) is used only to respond to you, investigate the issue, or consider the suggestion — never sold or shared with third parties.
Server Logs
Like most web servers, ours may keep short-lived infrastructure logs (e.g. IP address, timestamp, and requested URL) for security and abuse prevention, such as the rate limiting applied to the XSLT Compiler's transform endpoint. These logs don't include the contents of your documents.
Data Retention
Since almost every tool processes your data entirely in your browser and never sends it to us, there's nothing server-side to retain in the first place. For the one exception — the XSLT Compiler — your XML/XSLT is held only in memory for the duration of that single request and is discarded immediately after. Messages you send through the Contact, Report a Bug, or Suggest a Tool forms are kept only as long as needed to respond to you or evaluate the request, and are not retained indefinitely.
Your Rights (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you're located in the European Economic Area, the UK, or another jurisdiction with similar protections, you may have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of any personal data we hold about you (in practice, this would only be information you've submitted through the Contact, Report a Bug, or Suggest a Tool forms — see above). You may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To exercise any of these rights, reach out via the Contact page.
Children's Privacy
DevTooling is a developer tool and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated from time to time as the site changes — most recently to reflect the addition of Google Analytics and the Suggest a Tool form. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
